OIM's Strokes of Hope Evening at the OAG
About the Event
This year, we will gather at the beautiful and prestigious Ottawa Art Gallery. Because we’re combining multiple fundraisers, the evening will begin with a reception to mingle, followed by a wonderful three-course meal prepared by Chef Ric’s. In part, to celebrate the Innercity Arts program’s 15th anniversary, OIM’s Innercity Arts program will be highlighted.
During the event, you will have the chance to talk with OIM Ambassadors and youth from our Innercity Arts program. You will enjoy friendly bidding wars on incredible art created by our youth, and you’ll witness the God-given talents of some of them as they perform music and spoken word. The night promises to be exciting and memorable.

Event Highlights
Our featured event for the evening is our silent auction. At any point during the evening, you can bid on your favourite art pieces to take home if you're the highest bidder. The auction is important to the youth because it affirms their talents, promotes their self-esteem, helps develop social skills, and, what may be most important to them, provides them with financial rewards for work well done.
Our youth and young adults are hard at work creating art pieces and practicing their performances in anticipation. For our artists, they are making something they can be proud of and that someone will want to buy. This auction is a confidence boost for some artists to jump-start their careers. Some youth who have moved on from our program have begun their art careers by creating commissioned art pieces.
Background – History of ICA and OIM
Innercity Arts provides a safe and supportive environment for Ottawa’s street-engaged youth and young adults. Our program encourages youth to exercise their creative side through visual or musical arts. We believe that every youth has unique strengths that can be built upon to produce lasting change. In our program, youth are encouraged to set personal goals, gain self-esteem and build positive relationships within their community.
At the weekly gatherings, we offer a meal, access to a food bank, and time for the youth to do their preferred activity.
Many of the youth and young adults in our program have been marginalized, victims of abuse, and wrestle with many mental health issues. Through art and music, with the support and patience of dedicated volunteers, we encourage these young people, who have immense value, to accomplish greater things than they may have thought possible.
In addition to our Innercity Arts program, our staple ministry is our Street Outreach. Our street teams, made up of volunteers, go out every night of the week, 365 days a year, meeting the needs of our street friends where they are. Our Innercity Veterans Outreach and Support (IVOS) provides comfort and community for Veterans. Our Door Outreach program supplies essential resources (such as socks, blankets, sleeping bags, and food) on Tuesdays to people experiencing homelessness, while on Thursdays during the cold winter months, our building houses all our winter jackets, hats, gloves, socks, and more for our Winterwear program. Street Friends are welcomed into the building to come alongside their “personal shopper,” a volunteer excited to be of service, and take away what they might need to survive our brutal winter weather.

We are beyond grateful to our sponsors and their meaningful impact on our youth and young adults. Our sponsors at the Artists’ and Dinner levels have allowed sponsored youth to have their auction fees waved. They will receive 100% of their winning bid. We also want to give a special thanks to the Ottawa Art Gallery for helping us make this event happen.
