Ottawa Innercity Ministries Hires Gerald Potter as New Executive Director
The Board of Directors of Ottawa Innercity Ministries (OIM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Gerald (Gerry) Potter as its new Executive Director, following an extensive and thoughtful search process. Mr. Potter will replace Margo Dewar, Managing Director, who assumed many of the duties of Executive Director while the position was vacant. Mr. Potter started in the new position on September 23, 2024, and Mrs. Dewar will leave OIM in early January, 2025, providing a period of stability during the transition process.
Gerry’s extensive experience in bi-vocational ministry spans over four decades. He has provided leadership within established churches, new church plants and non-profits across Canada, the US, Western Europe and Afghanistan. His service on short-term missions in Indonesia, Guatemala, Ukraine, and Poland, along with his 35 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and over ten years as a consultant, showcases his diverse and robust skill set.

“My faith in Jesus is simple: I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and I take Him at His Word. Early in my journey as a follower of Jesus, three intertwined values began driving my thinking, doing, and aspirations. Two come from Mark 12:30-31, and the third comes from Matthew 28:19-20. In short: Love the Lord, Love others, Serve the mission. I am grateful to have the privilege of serving OIM as the newest member of the OIM team.”
“We are excited to begin working with Gerry and leveraging his unique and proven leadership skills for the benefit of the ministry”, says Taffy Nahas, Chairman of the Board of Directors for OIM. “We wish to thank Margo for her diligent efforts over the past few years as she brought her own strengths in administration, management and finance to the organization, providing steady and unwavering leadership during the pandemic and throughout the search period for the new Executive Director.”
