Celebrating Veterans' Resiliency

What and whom I see at OIM’s Operation Road Home Program continues to amaze and inspire me with hope and fortitude of spirit with every interaction I have with the Veterans in Operation Road Home.

Our clients have served both at home and overseas in some of the most challenging and often dangerous places on this planet. They have put their bodies, minds, and spirits in harm's way to defend and promote the values, beliefs, and ideals that Canada has stood for from the very beginning and have paid a high price for it in the form of wounds, both physical and metaphysical.

Yet the people whom I interact with day in and day out are invariably jovial, good-humoured, and take their situation with a sort of good-natured ‘one day at a time’ form of acceptance, regardless of their beliefs in Christ or whether they identify as non-believers.

These people are truly the salt of the earth, and their continued resiliency and will to live to the fullest of their ability, despite the often Herculean barriers facing them, I find, is a testament to the indomitable will of the human spirit, which the Almighty has imbued them with and which animates and moves us all as God’s creatures.

May God continue to bless and keep our Veterans in the palm of His hands, and may God continue to bless OIM's mission and its employees and volunteers.
