As we participated in Remembrance Day ceremonies, there was so much to be thankful for. Our freedom to read, work, go for a bike ride, and enjoy life in general.
There is so much more to be thankful for than just life in general. Now is the time to remember the men and women who went to war. Now is the time to remember all the men and women who continue to enlist every day to defend our country and make it a safe place to live.
The sacrifices that these men and women made should never be just remembered on one day. They should be remembered and honoured every day of the year. There are men and women who went to war and never made it back. The families who saw them off and never knew if they would return or not. It is so hard to imagine how each person felt.
Each Remembrance Day, we stand and honour those who fought for us. Each Remembrance Day, as I stand at a cenotaph, I think of those from days long gone and those that are there now, ready to go at a moment’s notice. Their sacrifices and courage are commendable.
Each week that the IVOS group meets, I look at these men and women who were ready to give everything for someone like me, who at the time they had never met, and admire their strength and courage to do what they did.
It is truly an honour to be able to stand with them each year as we honour those of the group that we have lost since the beginning.
When you see someone from the military, always remember to thank them. Without them, our lives would be so different.
To all those reading this who have or are serving, Thank You!
